Revised Vocab Terms
Today we went over the vocab words we did last night for homework to better understand what they mean.
Agora- A voting area in the town where people meet and discuss ideas.
(Greece had the first democracy)
Arete- The act of living up to ones potential.
Polis- An ideal ancient Greek city state where people hold citizenship
508 B.C.- The year when the Greek overthrew the tyrant that was controlling their government.
(This was the first time people rose up against their leaders.
Socrates- Was the founder of Western philosophy and was the teacher of Plato.
The Death of Socrates- He had disrespected the Greek Gods and corrupted the youth of Athens. He was charged with both crimes and was forced into suicide by drinking poison hemlock.
That was all we had discussed in class today, we will finish with The Socratic Method and what it meant if the ancient Greek called you an idiot tomorrow.
