Class on 9/5/14

Class on 9/5/14

On Friday in class we finished talking about the last two vocab words, The Death of Socrates and What it meant if someone called you an idiot.

The Death Of Socrates-
500 people voted on his verdict
Guards and Friends had set up an escape plan, but Socrates refused saying he was a citizen of Athens and he would respect the decision.
Socrates was viewed as on of Greece's great heroes, he talked the talk and walked the walk.

What it meant if someone called you an idiot-
It meant someone who does not participate in politics and someone who lacks professional skill. If you were called an idiot that was a big insult.

We also talked about a famous quote by Socrates, "The unexamined life is not worth living."
That means that nothing else in the world has the mental capacity that humans do so we should use that gift that we were given.

After that we had an interesting discussion on Hitler. We talked about it how it was a shame his body could not be recovered because it would have been interesting to see if he had any mental disabilities.  We also wondered if he had gotten into art school, if he would not have killed all those Jewish people. All good questions but unfortunately none of them could be answered.
