Video Discussion

Video Discussion

Yesterday in class we watched a video of the first episode of The Newsroom. One of the questions in the video that was being answered was, why is the United States the greatest country? Two of the three people on in the video answered the question, but the last man just kind of went off on why the United States isn't the greatest country. I think that man could not be more right. The United States is not a perfect country, although many people think it is. We don't lead the world in basically anything, education, per capita GDP, life expectancy. One thing in the video that really stuck with me was one of guys on the show said that the United States was the greatest countries because of freedom. The other man responded with, 170 other countries have freedom as well, which is also true. My opinion about what the United States needs to do is, first we need to keep our noses in our business and the countries that we protect like Japan and South Korea. Even though back in the 1940s we interfered and had World War II and stopped Hitler. That's not a bad thing but still, we need to mind our own business. I'm not saying not making allies, but to the point where we don't interfere with countries battles, unless it has something major to do with us. Also, we need to pay back our debt to China, having a 7 trillion dollar debt is unacceptable. I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for somethings if that means we can at least try to pay back out debt.
