Spatial Divisions

Spatial Divisions

We started class today with Mr. Schick playing guitar and listening to a remixed version of "Billionaire" that Mr.Schick and his daughter did but the lyrics were changed to parts of "Slumdog Millionaire" that we just recently watched. I was pretty impressed with the song, I have to say Mr. Schick's rapping was pretty good. He made the song to help us remember things that we will be tested on from the movie for exams which are in two weeks. After listening to Mr. Schick rap we got back to taking notes on Cultural Geography, but on the subtopic of Spatial Divisions. Spatial Divisions are how we divide the livable space found on the earth by establishing social, economic, and political control. You can be a member of more than one spatial group, and spatial division can also cause conflicts or cooperation. Some examples would be countries, economic alliances: European Union (EU) and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). Mr. Schick then started talking about how back when he was a kid a gallon of gas used to be like $0.25 and then the OPEC raised the price of a barrel of gas and then gas price started to go up. People would then started hoarding gas and there would be tons of lines at the gas station because everyone was worried that the gas station were going to run out of gas. That was pretty much sums up the class today, besides talking about Mr. Schick's directing career.
