Slumdog Millionaire Day 2
Yesterday in class we continued to watch the movie Slumdog Millionaire. A summary of what he watched yesterday is after the Hindu's attacked the Muslims, that left the slum also known as Jamal, and his brother Salim orphans. They also meet a girl named named Latika and they are taken to a camp/orphanage with other children. However, the orphanage teaches them to sing, and once they are good enough they make them blind, because blind singers make twice as much money. So when Salim is helping the orphanage owners make kids blind, he is told to go and get his brother Jamal. Long story short, they make a run for it and the orphanage owner are chasing after them and they jump on a train, but Latika doesn't make it because Salim let her hand go when she was trying to get on the train. Salim and Jamal then end up at the Taj Mahal giving tours to tourist to make money, however they end up getting caught and they go back to find Latika. They find her however the orphanage owner has made her into a dancer. Jamal and Salim are there to get her out however, the orphanage owner are there and where probably going to kill them. However, Salim has a gun and kills the owner takes his money and they all make a run for it. Meanwhile, in the present time Jamal has now won 2 million rupees on the game show. That is where we stopped in the movie; we will continue to watch it on Tuesday and we will probably finish.

Slumdog Millionarie Day One
Slumdog Millionaire Day One
Today in class I had a shadow and we started to watch the movie Slumdog Millionaire. I had heard of it before, but I didn't know what it was about. The summary of what he have watched so far is that a slum from Mumbai, India is on a game show where he can win 10 million rupees if he answers all the questions correctly. He had won the game show but now the police are interrogating him because they think he cheated to win the money. They had beat him, dunked his head in water, shocked him with batteries and all he says is "I didn't cheat." The movie goes back in time to when he was a little boy after each question. It does this because in each one the flashbacks it shows how he knew the answer to those questions. The police don't believe he could possibly know these questions because lawyers, doctors, etc... never make it though the show, the people they consider to be the smartest. This all ties back to Cultural Geography because it shows how some parts of India's living conditions are and how they live because of the their high population. Some of the cultural characteristics are poverty, and hindu vs. muslims, as well as having a corrupt police stations/officers. There are also so many other things to say about the movie so far, but what sums it up is I am thankful for everything that I have. We will continue to watch the movie tomorrow and I look forward to see how the movie unfolds.

Class on 11/19/14
Class on 11/19/14
Today in class Mr. Schick wasn't in class today, so we went to Mr. Connolly's room, so he was our substitute. We had to work on the extra credit project with Spotify. Since I already did it over the weekend I spend the class working on other homework I had for my other classes. I went to my locker to get my English homework and my earth science project. For Engish I had to annotate A Midsummer Night's Dream Act One and Scene 1&2 from what we read in class today. After I finished that I started to work on my Brain Flex project for Mr. Perry, I was starting to look up definitions but I only got two done before class was over. Tomorrow hopefully, Mr.Schick will be back in class because I have a shadow tomorrow so she can get the full experience of one of Mr.Schick human geography classes.

Cultural Geography
Cultural Geography
Today in class we started a new unit called Cultural Geography. I thought that we were going to go over the test that we took last Thursday, but maybe we will do that tomorrow. The first thing we did in class was look at the United States map to see which county's in certain states call a carbonated beverage. The New England region plus Pennsylvania and Maryland calls it soda. The south calls it Coke. Just about the rest of the country calls it pop. Which was all a part of cultural characteristics. Cultural characteristics are parts of a groups everyday life. They are the ideas and themes which the group will teach to all members. These same characteristics can also link or divide a region. The main examples of cultural characteristics are language , religion, and ethnic heritage. That's really all we talked about today in class because the second part of class, Mr.Schick is putting in grades for everyone since mid-quarters are this Friday and people in class need to know what their grades are for sports.

Japanese National Anthem
Japanese National Anthem
Lyrics:(English)
May the reign of the Emperor
continue for a thousand, nay, eight thousand generations
and for the eternity that it takes
for small pebbles to grow into a great rock
and become covered with moss.
(Japanese)
月皇帝の治世
、いや、千のために8000世代を続ける
そして永遠にそれがかかること
小さな小石が大きな岩に成長するために
そして苔で覆わになる
The Japanese National Anthem is nothing like the National Anthem of the United States. The Japanese National Anthem is peaceful, with gradual pick ups and has nothing to do with war, blood, hardship. The lyrics show that Japanese are peaceful people and traditional. The United States National Anthem is about blood, and war, freedom and has a marching kind of tone to it.. This shows that Americans are strong, powerful and free people. I think both National Anthems capture who their citizens are.

Test
Test
Today in class everyone took the test, except Veronica who is taking it tomorrow. The test was 30 questions long with a essay at the end. Overall I think I did really well on the test. I was well prepared between the slideshow presentations and just studying by myself. The multiple choice questions were fairly easy, some of the questions were on the quiz that we took two or three weeks ago, which was good because I only missed one question on that quiz. The essay was a little challenging, but I'm confident that I did a good job on that as well. I did finish early so therefore I am now writing this blog and after I finish the blog I will study a little for my next quiz on pronouns. Hopefully, I will get an A and that will boost my grade up from forgetting to blog a couple times, and maybe my class will get the highest overall average like usual and keep our unbeaten streak.

Study Guide Correction
Study Guide Correction
Today we took the beginning of class fixing the setting of our powerpoints if you were in the grand powerpoint so everyone in every class can see them. After we finish that we continued to ask questions about the test and the information/important things we need to know for the test tomorrow. Adam and Mr.Schick sort of got into it, but overall Mr.Schick won. Mr.Schick was kind of on a roll today, it was pretty funny to witness. Anyway, we continued to go over the grand powerpoint study guide, and talk about the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. We continued to discuss impeachment in those three countries, and the process of impeachment. Overall, I think I'm pretty prepared for the test tomorrow, I studied last night when I thought there was still going to be a test, and with the clarification today, I think i'm ready. I'm a little nervous about the essay though, since it's worth 10 points I have a feeling that it's going to be a pretty tough question.

Last Presenting Day
Last Presenting Day
Today we finished presenting our powerpoints on important countries. Paj and Alex did their presentation on Syria first, it was ok but they copy and pasted some of their powerpoint from CIA World Factbook. However, it was interesting to hear about some of the things going on in Syria, and how their leader Bashar al-asad is controlling their people. After Paj and Alex went, Steven and Trish presented the project on Israel. They had some technically difficulties, some of their slides disappeared but they fixed it, and they were able to continue to present. There presentation was very good and informative, Mr.Schick even suggested to go to their powerpoint in order to study for the test tomorrow. Rosemary and Megan went next and they presented Mexico, they also did a really nice job, and explained some dangerous situations that are going on in Mexico that I had no idea about, Mr. Schick also suggested to go to their powerpoint in order to study. After they were finished Mr. Schick showed a very recent situation in Mexico right now. The governor of a town and his wife, hired drug traffickers to murder students who were going to disrupt the wifes speech. Lastly, Ellee presented the country of Brazil by herself because she just changed classes. She also did a very nice job, however, I felt bad that she had to present by herself. After all the presentation were done, Mr.Schick started to show us a big presentation on all of the countries, that he is going to put up later to help us study for the test tomorrow.

Presentations 11/6/14
Presentations 11/6/14
Today in class we continued with the presentations. Parker and John went first today and their project was on Germany. I thought they did a really nice job and they pretty much have the best presentation so far. It was very informative and creative, and well put together. However, I felt bad for John because people were making fun of the things he was saying, and kept interrupting him. When someone is giving a presentation, your not supposed to talk and interrupt them, so I thought that was really rude. Anyway, after John and Parker went, Adam and I went. Adam wasn't very happy that I volunteered but, I really just wanted to get it over with. I thought the presentation went well, however I made some grammatical errors on the presentation. It was embarrassing, the last time I checked those slides they were not written like that, but I guess I just wasn't paying attention. We will continue to present our presentations tomorrow and continue taking notes for the test.

Presentations
Presentations
Today in class we started sharing our presentations. Zach and Rory went first and they did their presentation on the French Government. I thought there presentation was nicely done, and they seemed pretty well informed on what they were talking about. The diagram they had in the slideshow was a little confusing, but we will not be tested on any of that so thank goodness. Then Alyssa and Veronica shared their presentation on the United Kingdom. I like the way that their presentation was set up, with the backgrounds, and even adding the national anthem "God Save the Queen". However, they did do a lot of giggling, and that made their presentation time longer, and I don't think you should be doing that when giving a presentation. That was all we had time for in class today but we are going to continue tomorrow. Adam and I are giving our presentation second tomorrow, I am a little nervous but really I just want to get it over with because giving presentations have never been my strong suit.
